History
Though records hold that the effort to create the Bombay cat stared in the 1950s, it was only in the 1970s that this breed was finally registered by Cat Franciers’ Association (CFA) which is the world’s largest association for the registering pedigreed pets. Nikki Horner who created the Bombay cat decided to name it as such since the he was creating it to look like the Black leopard in the famous sea side place in India, Bombay. The creator of the Bombay cat wanted to create something that will look like the black leopard. Horner in other words wanted a breed that will maintain the features of the Burmese cat but had a black fur coat and eyes of copper. The Bombay cat was finally created after several research, it had a short coat like Burmese, copper-colored eyes and black color like the American Shorthair.
Physical Features
The blackest of black coats and the button eyes of copper and gold. Let’s talk about that for a while.
Coat ~ The Bombay has a very attractive shiny, jet black in color sleek coat all the way to the root. This very soft coat is so tempting to touch. The coat shiny and disease-free nature is a result of healthy and rich diet. The coat does not require plenty of grooming but brushing it once in a while is good.
Eyes ~ After the coat, the next arresting feature of the Bombay cat are the eyes. Basically there are two sections of Bombay cats and this is derived just by observing the color of the eyes. These two sections are the British and American Bombay cats. The American Bombay cat has orange and honey hue eyes while the British Bombay has eyes which vary in color from gold to copper. The eyes play an easy way to determine the Bombay type as you can see. The eyes of Bombay cat irrespective of its section are huge and rounded. But a Bombay kitten after four months starts to have sharp and rich orange or copper color.
Body Structure ~ with its large and muscular structure, the Bombay cat is very physically smart. Just like other cat breeds, the Bombay has stout nose, long and rounded ears at the end and a rounded head. The average weights of it range from 3-6kg with the male Bombay cat weighing more than the female.it is said that a Bombay cat has a 13-15years life span
Personality Traits
