A Look At Cat Breeds
Cats have handled their breeding themselves for over a thousand years. Killing and hunting rodents was the primary use of cats to humans then. However, over the years, cats were bred to suit the taste of humans. Nowadays, there exist many breeds of cats, which with a close look, can be told apart.
Over 70 distinct cat breeds can be found in the world today as registered in cat registries. Many registries though, only recognize about 40 breeds, due to the exclusion of non-domestic breeds like tigers. Physical variations exist too such as longer hair on wild cats.
Some of these cat breeds have quite historic roots, some dating back more than a thousand years, like the Japanese Bobtail. Throughout Medieval Japan, they were very common, but nowadays, throughout Japan and the world, they are all but a myth.
The Persian cat, alley cat and long haired cats are among the more common breeds that can be found in North America. There is also the Siamese cat, popular for their foul temper and destructive nature. On the contrary, Persian cats are popular for their calm nature and the fact that they make adorable companions. On the down side, depending on the type and where you get it from, Persian cats can be very expensive.
The most common cats in North America are the alley cats. Alley cat is the general name used to refer to the group which actually consists of many different breeds. They are literally thousands of them in existence and they make wonderful pets. Of all the pets, cats breed the most and they won’t stop breeding till someone stops them. Given the hundreds of thousands of cats that are homeless and have nothing to do but breed, alley cats are among the most bred.
From the look of a cat, it is easy to tell his or her breed. Color, though not easy to identify, can be used as a distinguishing factor. Like the Siamese and Persian cats, different breeds of cats have different looks. While body type and hair can be used to identify Persian cats, Siamese cats are known to be almost always black and can also be identified by their eyes.
As the years go by, quite a few breeds have come along. Cats are the most popular pets and probably one of the oldest. Around the world, regardless of race or culture, millions of people prefer the cat over other pets. Regardless of the cat breed you have, he or she can be the best companion of all times.
